George which is seventy miles in length and encompasses 650 miles of shoreline. Home to large and small mouth bass, hybrids, catfish, crappie, brim and a variety of other fish, this lake is a paradise for any fisherman. The lake is part of the Inland Waterway System which extends uninterrupted to the Gulf of Mexico. And bordering on the lake is George T. Bagby State Park with lodging, restaurants, a marina, and conference facilities.
A large amount of land on the eastern edge of Calhoun County is held by plantations devoted to agriculture, forestry and wildlife preservation. The next nearest large population center is Dothan, Alabama, forty five miles to the west. Dothan is convenient to the western edge of Calhoun County for shopping and services.
